Unit 9: Explain and clarify a situation

Cris: Hi, Ivet. How was your weekend?

Ivet: Not bad, thanks. Why do you ask?

Cris: Because you told me that you had a piano audition on Saturday evening, but I hear that you were in Barcelona shopping.

Ivet: Who told you that?

Cris: Maria said that she'd seen you. How come you didn't tell me about it?
Ivet:  'Cause my piano audition was in a town near Barcelona around 10 pm, so I spent all day in Barcelona with my family shopping 'till the audition.
Cris: Oh, I didn't know that your audition was there. Sorry, Ivet.
Ivet: That's OK.

Unit 8: Console and encourage

Ivet: Hey, Cris, you look a bit down. Whats the matter?
Cris: Oh, I've just heard that my best friendis moving to the USA next month.
Ivet: Oh, right. Sorry to hear that. But you have to think about the positive things.
Cris: I know, but I'm really going to miss him.
Ivet: Don't take it too badly- at least you can still keep in touch with her, because nowadays its easy to comunicate. And also you can go to visit her on holidays.
Cris: That's true, I suppose.
Ivet: Look at this way.
Cris: Yeah, maybe you're right.
Ivet: Cheer up! Come on - let's go to a café or something.
Cris: Ok. Thanks, Ivet. I feel a bit better now.

How to discuss a questionnaire

Ivet: Hi, Cristina. We're doing a questionnaire about Image and Identity. Do you want to have a look?

Cristina; Yeah, go on then. Ask me something.

Ivet: OK, I'll ask you the interestig ones. Do you express yourself more through your clothes or your hairstyle?

Cristina: Mm..through my clothes.

Ivet: Yes me too. Right, do you usually know what music someone likes from the clothes they wear?

Cristina: OH, that's a good one. Yes, sometimes.

Ivet: Oh I don't. OK. How about this one - do you prefer to hang out with a group of friends, or alone?

Cristina: I prefer a group.

Ivet: Me too. I prefer having fun together.

Cristina: We're quite similar then.

Ivet: It looks like it, yes.

How to exchange opinions

Cristina: Hi, Ivet. Have you seen these?
Ivet: No, what are they?
Cris: They are poster for an anti-alcohol campaign. All the students in the school have to say which poster is the best, and why.
Ivet: Let's see. Mmm. What do you think?
Cris: I can't really decide, but I suppose the left one has got a clear message than the right one. Do you agree?
Ivet: Well, yes and no. It's clear, but the other one is more effective.
Cris: Why's that?
Ivet: Well, I reckon you should be positive. For me, the left one is trying to be scary.
Cris: Mmm. You might be right there.

Ask for and give information

Ivet: Hello, there. Can I help you?
Cris: Yes, I'm staying in Barcelona with a friend next week and we were wondering if there's anything to see around there. Have you got any information?
Ivet:Yes, there are three hours trips to la Sagrada Familia if you're interested. I'll get you a leaflet.
Cris: That sounds good. What time do the trips leave?
Ivet: OH, they're quite regular - they go every day except Monday at 9 a.m and 15:00 pm.
Cris: OK. And how much is the trip? We've got students cards.
Ivet: Let's see. Well, in that case it's 6 pounds per person. The full price is 10 pounds.
Cris: That's fine. We'll go on Tuesday, then. Do we need to book it?
Ivet: I'll book it for you if you like. Can I take your names?

Talk about events in the past

Cris - Did I ever tell you about my trip to Canada?
Ivet -   No, then was that?
Cris - Oh, it was when I was twelve, three years ago now. I've got some photos.
Ivet - Oh, can I see? Were there many people with you in the trip?
Cris - Oh yes, I did a tour so we were around 30 of us.
Ivet - Did you have a good time?
Cris - Yes, we visited a lot of cites. We all had a great time. The best bit was when we ride a helicopter in the Niagara Falls.
Ivet - What happened then?
Cris - We could see all the waterfalls on the air, it was awesome one of the best moments of my life.
Ivet - That sounds great.
